The Des Moines Woodworkers field trip scheduled for Saturday, June 22 is canceled.
TreeHuggers reports that their sawmill is in the shop for repairs and won't be back in time for our planned tour.
They are sorry but hope to reschedule for a later date.
No field trip this Saturday.
When more information is available this website will be updated.
The club's July tour will be a visit to the commercial shop of RCS Millwork in Ankeny on July 24 at 5:30pm. They fabricate custom cabinetry, countertops, commercial displays for banks, casinos, hotels, and more. Come see how woodworking happens on an industrial scale, and maybe even find a new career, as they are hiring! Address is 1554 NE 69th Place, Ankeny. Meet at the main entrance at 5:30pm.

May 2024 Members Meeting
At the May meeting, Niah Howard will be presenting on her experiences with nonvisual woodworking. She has completed training in blindness rehabilitation skills at both the Iowa Department for the Blind and the Louisiana Center for the Blind. Both training centers include industrials arts as a course for all of their students. She will talk about her experiences in those wood shop classes and will discuss the importance of inclusivity and accessibility.
Niah works as an Orientation and Mobility Instructor teaching blind kids and adults how to travel independently with the long white cane. She is a new member of the Des Moines Woodworkers Association and says she has already learned so much from her participation in classes this spring!
