About Us

Des Moines Woodworkers Association, Inc.

We are a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit association dedicated to education, community service, and sharing of knowledge for those of all ages and skill levels in the field of woodworking. The Club's first meeting was Dec 3, 1985 followed by incorporation as an association Jan 17, 1990.

  • We have over 300 members from 62 Iowa cities and a few from other states.

  • Membership is open to all individuals who have an interest in any aspect of woodworking.

  • Members come together in-person for a meeting the Third Thursday of the month, September through May. During the Covid-19 pandemic we also added a live Zoom feed of our meetings for members.

  • Meetings consist of educational programs, idea sharing, show and tell of completed projects, and time to become involved in helping others with their woodworking skills.

  • Programs focus on a wide variety of woodworking disciplines and promote woodworking safety.

  • The association is operated by a Board of up to 9 members who are elected by the general membership, and additional volunteers.

  • Members are entitled to a monthly online newsletter, a membership card which provides discounts at leading local & catalog suppliers of woodworking related products, notice of our regularly scheduled meetings and presentations, preferred rates at special club sponsored educational seminars, access to our lending library of tools, books and DVDs, access to over 10 years of streaming video of our monthly presentations and shop tours, and more.

  • There are several Special Interest Groups for members that allow those with an interest in a specific area of woodworking to meet separately for education, techniques, skill building, fellowship, and special projects.
