The deadline to get your entry tags is July 1, 2015 for the wood projects division.  Your projects don't have to be in until August 8th.  Locals can actually drop them off on the 2nd floor of the Cultural Building on the Iowa State Fair grounds on that date.

You may enter on line or you can go to the east end of the lower level of the Administrative building at the fair grounds and buy your entry tags. For on-line entry go to: https://www.iowastatefairentry.org/login.aspx

Link to the entry form:  http://www.iowastatefair.org/upl/downloads/competition/premium-books/entry-form-22.pdf

Link to the entry fees:  http://www.iowastatefair.org/upl/downloads/competition/premium-books/entry-fees-22.pdf

Link to the entry rules:  http://www.iowastatefair.org/upl/downloads/competition/premium-books/wood-projects-23.pdf

It's easy to enter. Get the number of entry tags you think you'll need.  You don't have to know what you'll enter or what category it will go into until you ship or hand deliver your entries to the fair grounds.  You'll complete each tag you purchase and attach one to each project.  That's it.

You might note that the Iowa State Fair superintendent has the right to move your submission to the appropriate class if it is improperly submitted.

If you have questions you can call the entry department at 515-262-3111 extension 207.

Artistry in Wood 2015

This is an announcement to all the Members of the Turners and the Woodworkers Clubs in the Des Moines area. Artistry in Wood 2015 will take place on Saturday, Mar 28th, 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, Mar 29th, 11 am to 4 pm. All of the projects that you have made over the last 1 1/2 years, or any projects that you have never displayed at a prior Artistry in Wood are eligible to be in the show. All projects displayed will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Our Club Members have the kind of talent that people in the Des Moines area want to see.

Friday, Mar 27th, 1 pm to 6 pm, will be the time to bring your items to be placed for viewing. Please join us in a celebration of your woodworking ability. The public appreciates your talent and dedication to your craft. Ron Vander Meyden is heading up the Club’s “Toys for Kids” Community Service project. We will be making simple wooden toys for girls and boys. These will be distributed through several local Non-Profit Charities. These Charities will arrange for toy recipients to participate by painting the toys they receive.

Ron is looking for Member Volunteers to make these toys. These will be made from fir framing wood or plywood. Ron has obtained scrap construction material that can be used by the Volunteers.

The Club generally holds a wheeled toys assembly meeting at the Woodsmith Store the third Saturday of each month (see Home page calender). At this get together, wheels and axels that are provided by the Club, are added to the toys. Whether you have made toys or not, you are welcome to help out - bring your better half.

Please contact Ron at 515-279-0313 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information and to learn how you can get involved in this Club project.
