Our final program for Spring 2019 featured Chris Fitch from Woodsmith Magazine. Chris demonstrated the CNC router that he built a few years ago from the ground up, and which is now featured as a 2-issue project for the magazine (April and June 2019, issues 242 and 243).

In this presentation, Chris walks us through some of the design and functionality decisions he made in order to fit the project into 24 printed pages. He also covers the CAD/CAM software he chose along with some of the sources he found for motors, controllers and other parts. It's an impressive build on many levels!

Chris specializes in design and engineering of projects for Woodsmith Magazine.

I need volunteers to help in the wood project section of the Iowa State Fair on the following days before the fair starts:

Saturday August 3, 2019 (Check-in Day) Volunteers would help exhibitors fill out entry tags, assist with carrying in projects, if asked, and help prepare for the judging on Sunday.

-Sunday August 4, 2019 (Wood Carving Judging)Volunteers would help move carvings during judging, attach ribbons and prepare for Monday’s judging.

Monday August 5, 2019 (Wood Working and Turning Judging) and (Set up Displays) Morning volunteers would help move entries for judging, attach ribbons, etc. Afternoon volunteers would help set up the display area for the fair.

I am also looking for an assistant to help for the length of the fair. Duties would include answering questions from fair attendees, keeping the display tidy, watch the exhibit to try and prevent touching of entries and other tasks as assigned. This is a paid position.

If you are interested in helping with any of these positions, please contact: Brenda Rekenthaler Iowa State Fair Wood Projects Superintendent This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
