Our club is offering some exciting classes this Winter/Spring! Don't miss out on this excellent opportunity to learn from Master Woodworker, Phil Huber, who is also the host of the TV Show, WoodSmith Shop. This is a great opportunity to get some quality woodworking training from an expert right here in Des Moines, and a good way to spend those cold winter days. Classes are generally for beginner (some intermediate) woodworkers and cover a range of topics. You can sign up for as many classes as you want or sign up for all 4 classes for a discounted price of $125. Phil Huber is the host of the Woodsmith Shop TV show and the multimedia editor for Woodsmith magazine. He's been woodworking for nearly 30 years. He enjoys building for friends and family including wall cabinets, tables, boxes, carved bowls and spoons. He works in a small shop at the back of his garage and loves to put old tools back into use.

Name of Class: Get to Know your Router

What you will do/learn: Get to Know Your Router​. The router is a versatile power tool that can be used for so many woodworking tasks. During this two-part class, you get an idea of just what it can do. We'll look at essential operations, must-have bits, and handy jigs. We'll also take a look at how a router table fits into a workshop. The class will consist of both demonstration and hands-on practice. Bring your router if you have one. This is also the perfect class for someone without a router but looking to learn.

Name of Class:Getting More from Your Router

What you will do/learn: Your router can do so much more than create molding profiles and rout dadoes. This class will tackle more complex functions in shaping wood, joining workpieces securely, understanding guide bushings, and creating identical parts. Both hand-held and router table demonstrations and hands-on activities are included. While this class picks up from the previous Get to Know Your Router class, you can jump right in here without missing a beat.

Name of Class: Build a Tool Cabinet

What you will do/learn: During this four-part class, students will work through the steps to build a wall-hung tool cabinet. The case will be made from plywood and feature loads of tool storage potential. Class periods will discuss and demonstrate techniques and allow time for practice. Between class periods, students will need to accomplish some "homework" to be ready for the next class time. One-on-one instruction and the group work during the class times help to build skills and share ideas.

Name of Class: Easy-to-build Storage Chest

What you will do/learn: Start with a simple plywood box. From there, add details and hardware to create your own personal look. During this two-part class, you'll begin with plywood pieces, join them together securely. Then decide on a design and learn how to transform the box with solid wood trim, moldings, a lid, feet, and a great finish. The result is a storage project that you can use almost anywhere.
